I've been hearing some interesting stories about what people are being paid for their old gold jewelry that they're selling for cash. It's disheartening what some places are paying. In fact, in some cases they're not paying anything!
Case #1: I read an article in the newspaper. A journalist took her gold to a local place that advertises they pay cash for scrap gold. She got her quotation, but didn't sell. After all, she was doing an article. Then she sent it to a place she found on the internet. A place that promised to pay top dollar. You know what? That place did pay more than she was offered previously, but that's not always the case.
A more recent story I heard was about someone much less fortunate. This person sent her gold to one of those places on the internet, but her response wasn't at all like it was described in the newspaper article. She was sent a payment for a fraction of the actual value she sent. Even after numerous phone calls, she was never compensated for all of what was sent.
Case #2: There are several start-up companies out there who are doing their best to cash in on the "sell your gold for cash" trend. They may do lots of advertising, open store fronts with big neon signs claiming "WE BUY GOLD", or set up at hotels to do gold buying shows on most weekends and do gold buying parties where the attendees can receive gifts as incentives.
Sounds like fun doesn't it. The fun stops when you realize they are offering a fraction of what the gold is actually worth. In the case I'm writing about they are only paying $3 per pennyweight. Let me ask you, do you know what a pennyweight is? Most people don't. I do and that means they are paying less than $2 per gram!
At Wyatt Austin Jewelers we pay about 4x that amount. Whether you bring it in to us or we come to you, it's a much better value. We also know how to turn a gold event into a fundraiser. Call me if you want to know more. 847-985-4046
